In the journey of The Cheese Gig I have met some wonderful people doing wonderful things either with food or in the West Country or both. This is just a selection of my favourites all of which have a connection with The Cheese Gig in some way. I hope you find them interesting and useful and please don't hesitate to mention us if and when you make contact with any of them.
Blackdown Hills Business Association
The Cheese Gig is based on the edge of The Blackdown Hills, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Devon & Somerset border. This site will tell you all you need to know about other businesses large or small, individual crafts people, retailers, manufacturers, hoteliers, B&B; operators or any other person interested in business within the Blackdown Hills.
Blackdown Hills Foods
The Blackdown Hills are not only an area of outstanding natural beauty but also house some outstanding locally produced food. Many of my friends are listed here and are well worth sampling.
Sue Milverton of Clavelshay Barn and I have a mutual friend who has been suggesting for a while that we get together and I am delighted to say that we have agreed our first cheese tasting at the restaurant. Sue and Bill are committed to local food and brilliant service so I am delighted to be working with them, but don't wait for a special cheese tasting just go for dinner!
Coastal Property Search
A successful & innovative company with a modern approach to finding property in the West Country...without charging a fortune!
When Robert made contact and showed me his website I couldn't drag myself away from it. It is a bit like The Cheese Gig where we are passionate about West Country cheeses - Robert has gone one step further and provides information about cheeses from all over the world. As he wrote "we'd like to spread the word and get the information out to as many people as possible." - what a good idea is that!
Million Dollar Women
Million Dollar Women is a collaboration of independent women in businesses, selling products online. It is a unique collective of like-minded businesses.
The Belfry Country Hotel & Restaurant
The Belfry Country Hotel is a real find with six en-suite rooms which blend the traditional with the modern and are equipped with guests very much in mind. The restaurant prides itself on using the best local ingredients - the breakfasts are sumptous and the evening meals just excellent, accompanied by a superb wine list.
The Rural Marketplace
The Rural Marketplace is a wonderful example of women living in The Blackdown Hills who are creating marvellous things and supporting each other to bring them to market. My favourite is the recycled glass things made by Carole and Karen - have a look and see what you think.
The Smelly Alley Fish Company
Kevin lives next door to The Cheese Gig in Buckland St Mary and his business is about nationwide delivery of fresh fish and shellfish from a real fishmonger. Try some fresh fish from all over the world, from a red herring to a red snapper!
Withycombe Fair - Fine Artifical Flowers
I met Hannah Bradshaw at an event in support of St Margaret's Hospice at the Mount Somerset Hotel, near Taunton. As another brilliant Somerset based company how could I not add her to my friends and favourites?
